As I look through videos and pictures for this blog it is blowing my mind how much a baby can grow up in a few short months!! I feel like she's a completely different baby than she was two months ago. She's gaining weight, she's more aware of things around her, and she hasn't met something she doesn't want to put in her mouth.
Riley is now 5 months and a week or so. Since she turned 5 months we've had some new health adventures with her that have been less than fun. I learned that if a baby's arm is turned just right it doesn't take much force at all to cause something called "nurse-maid's elbow" where their ligament pops out of place. That was a horrible night, but luckily Ben could diagnose the problem via text and was able to reset her arm when he came home. It was pretty horrible looking at her laying down and not using her poor little arm because it was hurting her. Luckily this is something that happens very often in kids under 5 yrs old and they bounce back from it pretty quick.
A few days after, probably because of the doctor's office visit to double check the arm was okay, she came down with some sort of virus. I noticed that it sounded like her nose was stuffy and she was a lot fussier than normal. Thinking it was just the nose that was the problem we bought some nose drops to help loosen it up. Wow was that a mistake. She cried way harder getting those drops in her nose than getting her vaccinations. After that trauma we got some baby vapor rub, but then she started getting worse and it seemed like her throat was bothering her as well so we gave in and got some Tylenol. After a day of Tylenol she's definitely less fussy so we hope she's turned a corner. Although, I will say this illness has probably been a good experience for me. I feel like that guy in the book where he is complaining that his house is too noisy and then the wise man tells him to fill it with a bunch of farm animals. Then when he takes out the farm animals the noise that used to drive him crazy seemed like nothing! Now that I've experienced Riley sick when she even lets me set her down for a few minutes in the evening I'm like wow this was an amazing day!
We have some pictures and videos below of the more enjoyable moments from the last few months!
One of the cute things they did at the Y for Mother's Day
Ben was trying on his army uniform and couldn't pass up this photo op.
Whenever Ben is around Riley loves to grab his face. It's the cutest thing ever!
Showing off the baby flexibility.
No this is not a picture of Riley...but look at how huge that thing is!!
If she sees your hand she will grab it and immediately pull it to her mouth.
She's already got quite the attitude :)
It's already too hot for walks now...but we had a good run!
Trying to capture how pretty her eyes are.
Probably my favorite picture ever...just love that face!
The evolution of Riley's laugh:
I love this video! The filmography is a little crazy due to our child getting easily distracted, but it's still so sweet!
