Random moments from 2022 not yet on the blog

A song Riley was singing the other day, "It's okay to do something that hurts you!" I think she's going off of Daniel Tiger's It's Okay to Make Mistakes song...but not sure I agree with her conclusion.

Singing along with Frozen soundtrack, "Don't worry Anna, I know all the words!"

In today’s edition of why my kid is crying…coming home from the gym Riley walks into the house and immediately falls to the floor in tears after being seemingly fine outside and says, “I just didn’t know how the house was going to look.”

"There’s a terrible STINK on my hands."

A conversation with Riley while we are playing a pretend game:

Riley: There are other people that want it and we will fight them for it.

Me: Oh, we shouldn't fight right?

R: I just mean we will be sneaky and get there first.

Me: Oh and then we will let them have a turn when we are done.

R: I don't think that's even a word!

Here a few funny moments based on knowledge Riley's learned from books:

(Spit some of her food back onto her plate.) I'm a llama. I made cud.

I got tired quick! Like a cheetah.

He used to be a paw patrol, but now he's a dwarf paw patrol. (Inspired by Pluto's demotion to dwarf planet)

Reading a bedtime book to Riley, "Could you not read so tiredly?"

"I want to be a doctor when I grow up." All the sudden she starts getting very emotional. "But- the problem is I don't know all the things a doctor needs to know!"

Riley had about 48 hrs where she was very sick in November. One of those days she was getting upset before bed asking for a blue animal book. I had no memory of a blue animal book, we had a red one, but not blue. I asked, "I can't find a blue animal book, could that have been a dream?" Riley answered, "Yes! I want that book!"

Riley was pretending to be Detective Hops (from Zootopia) and it was great because I would call to Detective Hops and say thing like, "Oh no there is spill on the floor I need help cleaning it up," and Detective Hops would come running! It worked for a while before I went too far and asked for her to tidy up a pile of her toys, to that she said, "Oh those are too big for me to pick up. I'm just a little bunny." Which is the exact opposite message of Zootopia...

I started chocking and Riley got me some water. I said, "Thanks, you take care of me!" Riley replies, "Cause that's what friends and family do!"

Riley comes out of her room saying, "I'm guy diamond!" If you know anything about Trolls you'd know I was worried I was going to turn to see a naked girl, luckily it just meant she had glitter on her pants and shirt.

Riley talking to Ben, "Are you going to work?" "No, not today." "Not today EITHER??" Tell me your Dad's a doctor without telling me...

Riley leaving the room, "You'll miss me! ...and I'll miss you!"

I played a song by the singer Mika for Riley, the following conversation followed.
"Who is this singer?"
"Mika."
"He sounds like Mickey Mouse. When he sings so high."
If you know Mika you'll appreciate this, cracked me up.

A rare quote from Ben that cracked me up. Because there are so many signs of teething that are just natural baby things it can be very tempting to always assume that's the reason your baby is a bit off. When asking Ben if he thought maybe Nelson was teething he replied, "I haven't met a baby from 4 months to a year who isn't teething."

Most of these posts are about Riley, but just a note of something silly Nelson does. I think he'd be an excellent case for the argument of man's evolution from monkeys. If he wants something out of reach he will grab it with his little feet and bring it to his hands. Smart little monkey.

Riley can be very persuasive. When you tell her that you don't want her to do something she will often burst into a song where the lyrics are trying to convince you she should get to do that exact thing. I may ask her to not take a toy from Nelson. She will burst into song saying, "I have to take this toy away. He doesn't get to play with it, you must let me take it from him."

While I'm trying to type this blogpost Riley says that she is going to make a rule that the only thing I do is play with her. So I talked to her about how I have lots of different things on my to do list and while playing with her is an important one I also having things like making food, cleaning up, and typing on the computer on my to do list. She says I'm making a rule that only making food and playing with Riley is on your to do list. Haha smart. She realizes the food thing is legit.

As a mom I hold a lot of power. Whatever I say is truth for Riley. I'll hear Ben reading her a book and if he pronounces a name differently than I do she's correct him. Puts a lot of pressure on me to not just be making up stuff when she asks questions. 😅

Riley's first day of preschool. We are SO happy with our preschool. I only wish we'd signed up for a three day instead of two day program.

Riley's first day of after preschool. I'm glad that we adjusted fairly quickly, but at first I was afraid this was the child I'd have to deal with every preschool day.

Our last year of Gaver Farms! We LOVED this place. Hopefully we find something this cool wherever we end up.

This background is so pretty it kills me the kids aren't really picture ready, but I still like it!

Riley was overwhelmed seeing a human sized Bradley Bear at her preschool's ice cream social. Mostly she just walked behind it so that it wouldn't actually interact with her, but eventually she was brave enough for a fist bump.

Riley was feeling some serious anxiety when Lightning McQueen's tires all popped and he had to jump to the finish line.

Riley's first experience with soccer. :)

Riley loves to copy her mama and that includes with the exercise I do. I also love that she's doing the version of the workout that's in Spanish.

Just searching for some sweet smiles.

Getting some giggles

Riley cracks me up with all her random songs. Why is she performing with underwear in her hands? She's a free spirit.

Starting to find his voice

I just love how much Nelson loved his little birds on his bouncer.

Aunt Annalisa getting some giggles.

Blowing raspberries! I swear this very day Ben had said he'd never heard him blow a raspberry and I said that he'd done it a few times. Guess baby wanted to prove Mama right! He did this for about 10 minutes straight.

I wanted to capture the cute spastic movement he would do when I came to get him up from his naps...instead I captured the look of fear in his eyes at his sister's voice. 😆

It's not taken at the best angel, but to get her best, earnest performance I have to hid the phone.

Just absolutely mesmerized by his mobile.
